This year at Fashion Week San Diego each night of shows were categorized by different themes, including “SoCal Style”, “Gentlemen and Ladies”, and “Avante Garde Evening Wear”. Presenting his collection on “Gentlemen and Ladies” night, designer J.L. Rocha used 100 year old techniques to create an exceptional line of menswear that included shoes, jackets, and belts. Rocha’s belief in using only the best when it comes to his leather goods radiated in his FWSD 2014 collection. His collection was classic and timeless with stunning details influenced from his Mexican heritage.
It’s only in its third year running, but Fashion Week San Diego is already playing host to a slew of highly talented (and mainly Southern California based) designers, including Jessica Faulkner.
Evelyn Aguilar of nOia by Evelyne is no stranger to Fashion Week San Diego. Evelyne debuted her line at FWSD in 2012 and she is also a member on the advisory panel for FWSD, helping assist and coach other designers of FWSD. This week at FWSD Evelyne showed a modern collection of resort and swim wear that was fun and sporty, yet elegant and sophisticated.
Passion, an eye for innovation, and business know-how are all key elements for any successful fashion designer to have...and Denver, Colorado based fashion designer, Salwa Owens exudes all those and more. Salwa’s unique take on fashion was evident in her collection presented at Fashion Week San Diego 2014. Salwa designs beautifully wearable clothes that women of any background can feel confident in. Everything from her custom made prints to her fresh take on classic silhouettes showed just how much Salwa is dedicated to her craft and to the women she designs for.
I have always been an avid fan of the “less is more” philosophy when it comes to fashion, and looking at the Fall 2014 designer collections from New York, London, Milan, and Paris, I would say the fashion industry is a fan as well. From Edun to Helmut Lang, runways were filled with simple yet striking silhouettes, monochromatic color schemes, and fresh takes on minimalism. This simplistic approach to fall fashion gave the clothing a true quality of wearable luxury.
