Shine 2016 – an extravaganza of fashion, music and dance– will be hitting the stage at the Commodore Ballroom on September 10th . This wonderful evening is made possible by hundreds of individuals who are rallying together in support of mental health. Communities helping communities!

Every single person and every single business involved is volunteering 100% of their time and services. Because of their generosity, Shine! will be able to donate 100% of every dollar raised through ticket sales and donations directly to the evenings recipients – Canadian Mental Health Association and The Lions Gate Hospital HOpe Centre.

As a thank-you, we want to offer a highlight on some of the people and businesses who are working hard to make this evening special. Today’s interview is with Jennyfer Leclair of Volution Salon, one of 14 salons participating in SHINE!

Please share a bit about Volution Salon.

Volution salon has been in existence since October 2010. We love to have the guests feel like it’s home ( the relaxing, pampering and ear that so many people need). Our favourite thing to hear is “I’m so excited that it’s finally appointment day.” To us there is nothing better.

please share about your journey to open this salon. If you have an interesting or funny story about the process we’d love to hear it.

In my most trying time, my now business partner – Krissi Wiltshire – did not know me very well. Yet she helped me every weekend doing my necessary hard labour, always with a positive attitude and so much love. I knew this was the person I wanted to be in business with – to help with her future goals and to help me feel happy and safe. What a great trip we’ve had so far.

How many artists work here and what is the range of services you offer clients?

There are three of us – two business partners and one part-time receptionist who has been my client since the age seven. She is now 17. We offer complete services – with the exception of wig making – specializing in haircuts, colour and colour correction.

What would you most like future clients to know about Volution Salon

That we care.

For interested new clients – how should they book a consultation? Connect with the right artist?

The two of us have our own clientele but often share these clients. Consultations are free and are made by calling the salon at (604)568-1170.

Please share how you heard about Shine 2016 and why you feel it’s important to participate in this fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association and The LionsGate Hospital HOpe Centre.

Our hair styling and business community is very important to us. Our rep for La Biostetique, Michelle Phaneuf, persuaded Dean Thullner to give us the opportunity to be involved in the show. How lucky are we?!

“Have I ever written anything that has really changed something. What I believe is that you can’t really change anything without art. I believe that the drops wear away the stone. I try to be a part of that army”. – HENNING MANKELL
