Shine 2016 – an extravaganza of fashion, music and dance– will be hitting the stage at the Commodore Ballroom on September 10th . This wonderful evening is made possible by hundreds of individuals who are rallying together for mental health. Communities helping communities!

Every single person and every single business involved is volunteering their time and services. Because of their generosity, Shine! will be able to donate 100% of every dollar raised through ticket sales and donations directly to the evenings recipients – Canadian Mental Health Association and The Lions Gate Hospital HOpe Centre.

As a thank-you, we will be highlighting some of the wonderful people and businesses who are working hard to make this evening the best it can be. Today’s interview is with Tanya Duprey-Sullivan of CRAFT Academy Salon, one of 14 salons participating in SHINE!

Please share a bit about (salon) – when was it opened, what is the salon’s approach/philosophy?

CRAFT Academy Salon opened January 2014. Our intention is to practice and celebrate our CRAFT to the fullest whilst educating those within our industry through specialty masterclasses and made to measure programs. We believe that a culture of mentoring, camaraderie and commitment to service will set the standard of the industry our CRAFT deserves.

Please share about your journey to open this salon. If you have an interesting or funny story about the process we’d love to hear it.

As the Education Manager for L’Oreal Professionnel I worked with many different salons across the country. I began to see what worked and didn’t work within each business. My passion is mentoring stylists and creating customer service workshops to help other salons improve the reputation of hairdressing. I worked on my salon business plan for 2 years and left my safe corporate job to be an entrepreneur. I have never regretted this decision and continue to evolve the business plan and grow our brand.” – Tanya Sullivan

Please share how you heard about Shine 2016 and why you feel it’s important to participate in this fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association and The LionsGate Hospital HOpe Centre.

L’Oreal Professional approached us to see if we would be interested in participating in the SHINE Event. Given that we are always looking for ways to create team-based results, it was an amazing opportunity for us. This cause is one that needs more attention – and we are excited to help in any way we can to ensure that it is supported.
