You know how some people’s calling is in their name? When I hear “Karen Kobel” I instantly picture a performer. It suits. Karen clearly knew it, too, as she’s been dancing since she was two! For the past 20 years, Karen has been teaching her style of Simonsen Dance, “a Jazz/Modern fusion with a twist of Yoga/Pilates”, as well as STOTT Pilates for the past 11 years.
VANCOUVER — A diverse group of Vancouver artists will combine their talents for an evening of creative outpouring in support of mental wellness at the 2nd Annual Stand Up and Dance II event on October 8. Featuring painters, musicians, fashion designers and, of course, dancers, the event's goal is to shed light on the positive impact creativity and movement have on our mental well-being when living with the trauma of sexual violence, bullying, and stress.
There was a time when our community didn’t offer such extensive social programming through the government. That was also a time before taxation. (Insert sarcastic emoticon here). However, it was the people of the community who knitted socks for the war effort, ran soup kitchens, organized work parties, and held up the fort in all the arenas where life had intervened causing shortfalls. Neighbours would divide their crops, families would open their homes to share what they had.
