Every Fashion LOVERS dirty little SECRET: The Winners Bi-Annual Runway event has been slowly evolving over the past 5 years. Several years ago crowd weary savvy shoppers were able to visit their local Winners Runway department on the evening before the official event and snap up their purchases without having to deal with a frenzied aggressive crowd. This is no longer possible – now, the staff put out the merchandise after the stores have closed the night before the event.

On the morning of the Runway event the stores open early at 08:00 AM. They will customarily set out Tim Hortons coffee and Tim Bits for shoppers inside the stores after they have officially opened for business that day. The sweets and coffee are rarely touched. Over the past four to six Runway events this writer has witnessed an increase in aggressive shoppers. There is one West Side Vancouver based socialite who is notorious for grabbing everything in a size 2 and 4 regardless of what it looks like and then hoarding everything in a bulging shopping cart. This lady typically starts the day at the Granville Street Runway location and then makes her way over to the Park Royal store. She is usually accompanied by a shopping accomplice. There has been an increase in what I will diplomatically term PURSE PANDEMONIUM. It has now become customary for a small group of exceptionally aggressive shoppers to crowd the front entrance of the stores and pounce on the heavily logo-ed designer purses. It should be expected that almost all of the logo-ed designer purses will be cleared out of the Runway stores by 11:00 am on the first day of the Runway Event. This small group of shoppers will resort to rushing the merchandise once the doors have opened. Thankfully, his type of consumer behavior is normally most prevalent only in the handbag department.

For the DESIGNER fashion loving man, this event is relatively tame. You will be able to breeze in and out of the store and shop with relatively few distractions. If you are looking to acquire designer cashmere sweaters, suits, shoes, and jackets we strongly suggest you check out this shopping event – you will not be disappointed. The FW Runway Event usually happens either the last week of August or the first week of September. The SS Runway Event generally occurs mid February or early April. This writer has been attending the Runway event since 2007 and has seen labels such as Balenciaga, Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Lanvin, Pucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Pink Tartan and Missoni – just to name a few. In spite of the increasingly aggressive nature of the shoppers attending this event we still recommend it. Even if not for anything other than the sublime pleasure of observing fashion bargain hunters in their natural habitat.
