Why Support Tradeworks?

The participants are women and other community members who face multiple barriers to employment. The majority of participants come from various backgrounds with issues such as personal trauma, addictions and homelessness. We also have single mothers and new Canadians looking to build a better future through our program. Tradeworks provides training in life and employment skills, and hands-on work experience in the field of carpentry. After completing our program graduates are prepared for steady employment or advanced training in woodworking.

Toni Glick, once a program participant, now works as a lead designer and principal laser engraver in the workshop. Toni, a single mother, came to Tradeworks in 2006 in search of carpentry training so that she could gain employment to support her young child. Toni had previously obtained a two year graphics arts degree, but for many years did not have the opportunity to utilize her skills. During her first year at Tradeworks, she discovered that her skills in graphic design could be incorporated into her carpentry projects. Today, Toni mentors and trains participants enrolled in the Women in the Trades workshop.
