vancouver fashion week
The heady rush of the opening night gala dissipated around 4am on Tuesday am. Coincidentally that is when my phone finally stopped buzzing and blinking. The official After Party was over and the second round of the nights' texts had finally ceased. My dreams were filled with confusing collages of potential outfits for the following days and ultimately had turned nightmarish when my alarm went off.
Game on! Tentology created the new venue for Vancouver Fashion Week literally in the days before the gala launch of the Spring/Summer 2015 event. It was a make it or break moment for owner Jamal Abdourahman and a risk that paid off. Walking up to the giant tented structure made my heart flutter. Visually stunning and so familiar. Must be all the hours invested Project Runway that makes the tent very 'MB Fashion Week' exciting. That and following Vancouverites Dominique Hanke and Joshua D Langston's adventures last week in New York!
Lu Liu is a mystery to me! I have searched the internet, visited her wix website and scrolled through her FB page and I still have no idea who this designer is! It is confounding - who found her? How did she get on the roster?
Last season attendees were awed by the 3D printed stilettos at Vancouver Fashion Week crafted by designer Pierre Renaux. Just this past week designer Katya Leonovich showcased 3D printed embellishments on her garments at Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week so it was only a matter of time before full-on 3D printed dresses would be on the catwalk.
Today's choice for designer spotlight is Vancouverite Sara Armstrong. This Blanche Macdonald graduate cut her teeth at Lululemon and Urban Outfitters, two of the west coast's favourite lifestyle shopping destinations. Androgynous fashion is very appealing especially in our city where we are sometimes forced by the weather to dress a little less chic than we had planned!
